The first company in the Orestod group of companies was Marias Technology. The Marias name comes from the Great Northern Railroad’s mountain pass over the Montana Rockies, Marias Pass, which later became the southern border of Glacier National Park. Railroads and the area around Glacier are both very special to the Haines family, who vacation there frequently. So it was a desire to have a reference to both Glacier National Park, as well as hint to the relationship between GVC and Marias Technology, when selecting the name for the coffee shop.
In addition to the reference to Glacier National Park, the Great Northern Railroad later became part of Burlington Northern, and then even later BNSF Railway. One of the most special passenger cars of the Great Northern was named Glacier View and many passengers rode this car over the years back and forth across Montana, with unbelievable views of Glacier National Park. This railcar still exists today in the BNSF office car fleet, used mainly for railroad executive trips, and the Haines family has always gotten a thrill out of seeing it from time to time over the years.
